March- Home and birds' habitat

At the moment we are working in our group hours around the theme Home and Habitat. We started with our favorite Bird Bingo to get a feeling for birds sharing the same habitat-ecosystem. Each bingo card has a collection of birds in the same habitat. From this vantage point we discussed with our students in what kind of house they live or would like to live. Advantages and wishes were summed up and later drawn together with a bird which shares the same preferences. For example J. would like to live in a cellar apartment which is small and cosy. She could go out for company, but often prefers to be by herself. This is similar to the habitat of a puffin who lives in large communities on the edge of grass grown rocks in which she builds a deep burrow to make a nest. Deep down the hole she lays on her eggs.K. likes to live in a place with a good view, but in an area which is not densely populated. A bit like a snipe, which likes to hide in a grassy area, not close to others or humans.  These are two examples of student work. We are currently working on transforming these deliberations in short animations to practice what we have learned from our partners from London. We hope to finish those before Easter. So to be continued....

  • Hi, I have 2 students Kate and Jen who are very interested in birds. They are researching birds which are becoming rare in the U.K. We are aiming to make some games about this topic...so yours is an inspiration
  • I have a student who may be interested in doing a project about the birds in his homeland of Chile. We might adapt this idea for his project. I like how you stretch the imagination with this task.
