Brúarskóli við Dalbraut

These special days are yearly celebrations in our school and all over Iceland. To honor our environment and the birthday of famous Icelandic environmentalist Ómar Ragnarsson we cleaned up around our school, picked some rubbish, planted more berry shrubs, collected seeds of birch, rowan and roses. We started an experiment with growing trees. Some birch seeds we sew directly in the soil on the school grounds, others we grow in recycled "greenhouses" of boxes with plastic and some pots. This experiment was inspired by the knowledge we learned recently that for every three hour return flight for one person it takes about 4 trees to balance the CO2 in the air. In order to balance our Comenius visits we intend to plant trees and shrubs to even out our pollution. What's left of our seeds, we give to the National Forestry Agency, who will use it

to reforest a very

 barren area around Mount Hekla.
